Objectives:

The project, which is considered a part of the program to support elementary schools in the republic of Tunisia (2016 – 2020), aims at providing the appropriate conditions and the necessary means to develop primary education, and setting quality standards, and principles of equity and equal opportunities, through the maintenance and rehabilitation of deteriorated buildings and school facilities, the expansion of existing schools, the construction of new schools, and the provision of school furniture and supplies, and digital equipment.

Description:

The project, which is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021, consists of the execution of all civil, construction, electrical and mechanical works necessary to build about 50 new schools, the expansion of about 2000 existing schools, and the maintenance and rehabilitation of about 800 schools, as well as the provision of school furniture and supplies, computers, digital equipment, and their accessories for about 500 schools, in addition to the necessary technical services. The project consists of the following components:

  1. Construction of Schools:This consists of the execution of all civil, construction, electrical and mechanical works necessary to build about 50 new primary schools in different areas of the country.
  2. Expansion Works:This consists of the execution of all civil, construction, electrical and mechanical works necessary to expand about 2000 existing schools. This including the construction of additional classrooms, administration offices and other facilities.
  3. Maintenance Works:This consists of the execution of all necessary works to maintain about 800 schools, including the rehabilitation of some classrooms and facilities.
  4. School Furniture and Supplies:This consists of the provision and installation of school furniture, such as tables and chairs, and any other accessories for about 2000 schools.
  5. Computers and Digital Equipment:This consists of the provision and installation of computers and digital equipment, and their accessories, for about 500 schools.
  6. Technical Services:This consists of the provision of the necessary technical services to prepare the project designs, detailed plans and tender documents, and the supervision of works.

Financing:

The Arab Fund’s loan covers about 80% of the total project cost. The Tunisian Government will cover the remaining cost of the project and any additional cost that may arise.
