Objectives:

The project, as part of the Second National Program of Rural Roads (NPRR-2), aims at alleviating the isolation of rural areas and increasing their access to basic services, through the construction and rehabilitation of a number of rural roads, which will contribute to the improvement of living conditions and the eradication of poverty in those areas.

Description:

The project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2011, comprises the construction and rehabilitation of about 1000 km of rural roads included in the first phase of the NPRR-2. These roads represent about 12.6% of the first phase and about 6.4% of the NPRR-2 as a whole. The project consists of the following elements:

  1. Execution of Works: This includes all necessary civil works to construct and rehabilitate the rural roads, including earthwork, paving works, structural works, in addition to ancillary works related to traffic safety.
  2. Studies and Designs: This includes providing consultancy services to complete the preparation of technical studies, designs and specifications of the project.
  3. Technical Control: This includes the supervision of project execution, as well as obtaining the services of specialized quality control laboratories.

Financing:

The Arab Fund’s loan covers about 69% of the total project cost. The Moroccan Government will cover the remaining cost.
