Objectives:

The project aims at satisfying the demand for electricity in areas with high electric loads, by developing and expanding the electric power transmission grid. This will be accomplished by constructing substations operating on 500 kV, 220 kV, 66 kV, 22 kV and 11 kV, and constructing aerial lines and laying down underground cables to connect the new substations to the power grid.

Description:

The project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, includes the construction of new substations, and the procurement and installation of circuit breakers, bus bars, transformers, and measurement, protection and control systems, as well as aerial lines, underground cables, and carrying out all supplementary works, in addition to consultancy and technical services. The project consists of the following components:

  1. Substations:
    1. Damietta (1) 220:This includes the construction and installation of Damietta (1) substation by adding 10 gas insulated 220 kV circuit breakers, two 175 MVA 220/66 kV transformers, three 40 MVA 66/11 kV transformers, and accessories.
    2. Minya (Ma’ousa) 220:This includes replacement of the existing 132/33 kV substation by a gas insulated 220/66 kV substation consisting of ten 220 kV circuit breakers, and two 175 MVA 220/66 kV transformers, in addition to the construction of a 66/11 kV extension consisting of 15 circuit breakers, two 40 MVA 66/11 kV transformers, and accessories.
    3. Borg El Arab ElTarfihya 500:This includes the construction and installation of a 500 kV and 220 kV gas insulated substation consisting of nine 500 kV circuit breakers, two 750 MVA 500/220 kV transformers, three 220 kV circuit breakers, and accessories.
    4. Mersa Matruh 500:This includes the replacement of the existing 220/66 kV substation by a 500/220/66 kV gas insulated substation consisting of nine 500 kV circuit breakers, two 750 MVA 500/220 kV transformers, thirteen 220 kV circuit breakers, and accessories.
  2. Aerial Lines and Underground Cables:This includes modifying existing lines and construction of 500 kV, 220 kV, 66kV and 11 kV aerial lines and the laying of various underground cables.
  3. Consultancy and Technical Services:This includes the consultancy and technical services necessary to review the design and specifications of substations and tender documents, assist in tender analysis and contract signature, supervise project execution and commissioning, and participate in equipment tests in factories.
