Overview of the Operations of the Arab Fund for the Year 2018

During the year 2018, the Arab Fund extended 11 loans, to 6 Arab countries, for a total amount of KD 464.0 million. These loans contributed to the implementation of 11 public sector projects. The total cost of these projects was estimated at about KD 1.4 billion, with the loans provided by the Arab Fund covering about 33.1% of that amount. The share of loans provided to the water and sewerage sector represented about 35.6% of the total loan commitments during the year, that of the transport and telecommunications sector about 25.1%, that of the agriculture and rural development sector about 17.0%, that of the social services sectors about 10.6%, and that of the energy and electricity sector about 10.4%.
During the same year, the Arab Fund also provided 36 national and inter-Arab grants, for a total amount of about KD 7.3 million. These grants included 12 national grants for a total amount of about KD 2.6 million, about 80.7% of which was allocated for institutional support and training, about 19.1% for feasibility studies and project preparation, and about 0.2% for seminars and conferences. The grants also included 23 inter-Arab grants for a total amount of about KD 4.7 million, about 92.3% of which was allocated for institutional support and training, about 6.0% for seminars and conferences, about 1.1% for emergency programs, and about 0.6% for general studies and research. The Arab Fund also continued its annual contribution to support the resistance of the Palestinian people, allocating about KD 11.3 million during 2018 to the sixteenth phase of the Urgent Program.
