Coordination Secretariat of Arab National and Regional Development Institutions, the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development (Coordination Group Institutions)

The Coordination Group of Arab National and Regional Development Institutions, the Islamic Development Bank and the OPEC Fund for International Development is a collective entity established in 1975, with the aim of achieving more effectiveness in providing aid through optimal use of the competencies and capabilities available in the group’s institutions, and by coordinating financing and accompanying procedures, especially with regard to projects. Major programs that exceed the capabilities of any single institution, in addition to achieving common goals and establishing a clear link between development assistance and other economic relations with beneficiary countries.
For this reason, it was agreed at the first meeting held at the headquarters of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development on September 20, 1975, in which, in addition to the Kuwait Fund, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and the Saudi Fund for Development participated, to hold two meetings annually. For the group at the level of operations managers, in order to consult on initiatives, cooperate in the field of exchanging information and data on projects and development plans, and harmonize procedures to avoid duplication and repetition to provide the necessary funding or the maximum amount of it to establish priority projects. It was also agreed, during the same meeting, that the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development would carry out the tasks of the coordination secretariat.
