Objectives:
The project aims at improving land transportation services on the road network in Morocco to accommodate the rapidly growing road traffic and reduce traffic accidents. This project also contributes to the economic and social development of the middle regions of Morocco and links them to the rest of the motorway network, as well as facilitates land transportation between those regions and the main cities in Morocco, especially Casablanca, the economic capital of the country.
Description:
The project consists of constructing, developing and rehabilitating several rural roads that are covered in the third phase of the rural roads development program. These roads are located in 11 governorates. Each road has a width of 6 m to fit two lanes, one in each direction, in addition to shoulders with varying widths based on the type of the road. The project, which is expected to be completed during the first half of 2014, comprises the following main components:
- Execution of Works: This includes all necessary civil and structural works for the construction, development and rehabilitation of about 300 km of rural roads. It consists of earth works (cut and fill), foundation layers, asphalt pavement and structural works including ferries and building drainage, in addition to other ancillary works needed.
- Technical Services: This includes consultancy services needed for reviewing the project’s technical and economic studies, completing detailed designs, preparing contract documents, evaluating tenders and supervising works.
Financing:
The Arab Fund’s loan covers about 77.0% of the total project cost. The Yemeni Government will cover the remaining cost of the project and any additional cost that may arise.
