The project will also limit the over-exploitation and depletion of the underground water resources in response to increasing water demand, which leads to the increasing of water salinity and the seeping of seawater into the underground water table.
Description:
The project is expected to be completed by mid-2000 and consists of the following main components:
1. Transmission and Distribution Main Lines:
- Construction of two main lines to transfer and distribute desalinated water from Al-Hidd station to the center of Muharraq city and the region of Sanabous. The total length is about 40 km., in which diameters vary from 600 mm to 1000 mm.
- Supply of a third main line to transfer blended water from the blending station of Sanabous to the region of Janoussan and AI-Badia. The length of the pipeline is about 12 km with diameters varying between 600mm and 800 mm.
2. Reservoirs:
Construction of 3 reservoirs with a limiting capacity of 45,000 m3 and 3 reservoirs with a limiting capacity of 22,500 m3 and 4 reservoirs with a limiting capacity of 4,500 m3.
3. Pumping Stations:
Construction and equipment of 6 pumping stations with a capacity varying between 6,400m3/day and 91,000 m3/day and replacement of the pumps of 5 pumping stations with a capacity varying between 28,000 m3/day and 42,000 m3/day.
4. Consulting Services:
These include the preparation of the detailed design and tender documents, supervision of construction, supporting the training centers activities through the supply of equipment, programs and trainers, and the development of the administrative, financial and technical information systems at the Ministry of Electricity and Water.
