 Objectives:

The project aims at meeting the needs of basic, technical and vocational education through constructing new school buildings to accommodate the increasing number of students annually, as well as enhancing the administrative and institutional capacity of the Ministry of Education to upgrade and expand the education services.

 

Description:

 

The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year 1999 and will contribute to restoring the physical infrastructure of the education sector in Palestine. The project consists of the following main components:

1 - Civil Engineering and Associated Works:

Engineering and Associated Works:

1. Construction of two schools for basic education in Gaza strip, each consisting of 24 classrooms with a total capacity of 1920 students. The total area of each school will be about 3000 m².
2. Construction of one school for basic education in the governorate of Hebron consisting of 16 classrooms with a capacity of 640 students. The total built area of the school will be about 2000 m².
3. Construction of an industrial school in Gaza strip consisting of 10 classrooms, two halls and five workshops with a capacity of 500 students. The total built area of the school will be about 3450 m².
4. Expansion of existing facilities in polytechnic colleges with a capacity of 2400 students. One college will be in Arroub with a total area of 1500 m², one in Ramallah with a total area of 1200 m², one in Gaza with a total area of 1000 m² and one in Tulkaram with a total area of 1200 m².

 

2 - Equipment:

Provision of the required furniture, other equipment and workshops, in addition to

providing furniture, equipment and transport vehicles for the Directorates of Education.

 

3 - Technical Services:

Provision of the consulting engineering services to undertake the studies, detailed preparation and tendering of bids documents, designs and supervision required for the implementation of the project’s various components.

 

Financing:

The Arab Fund loan represents 100% of the total project cost.
