The project will contribute to the improvement of the population’s health and living standards and also contribute to the development of tourism in Meknes, as well as its economic development.

Description:

The project is expected lobe completed by the middle of the year 1999 and consists of the following main components:

1- Pipeline and Fittings:

Laying a new reinforced concrete pipeline to transfer about 1,000 liters/second of water from the intake of Chahed Dam to the reservoirs of Meknes. The total length of this pipeline is 60 km with diameters varying from 600 to 1,000 mm.

2 - Construction of a Water Treatment Plant:

This component includes the construction and equipping of a water treatment plant with a nominal capacity of 1,000 liters/second and a reservoir with a capacity of 4,000 m3 to collect treated water and a primary station with a capacity of 1300 liters/second to pump water from the reservoir to the main transfer pipeline. The works include also the construction of a building of about 1,200 m2 for the administration, a laboratory, the operating and control equipment, and a building of about 1,500 m2 to store and prepare the chemicals used in the water treatment process.

3 - Other Equipment:

Consisting of:

a - Supplying and equipping 4 pumping stations to pump water to the transfer pipeline with a capacity of 1,000 liters/second. including all the equipment needed for operation.

b - Electrical equipment to supply the pumping stations with electricity including a transmission line with a length of about 20km and 3 transformers.

c - An integrated remote control system for all the project’s buildings in order to regulate their operation according to their water storage and distribution requirements.

4 - Other Civil Works:

Construction of two concrete reservoirs with a capacity of 500m3 and 5,000m3 including all the necessary equipment, the construction of housing for project staff and the paving of about 6 km of dirt roads to the various project sites.

5 - Consulting Services:

These include specialized engineering office services to carry out studies and detailed design, prepare tender documents, supervise the implementation of various project components, and monitor the test run of the integrated project.

6 - Acquisition of Lands:

Acquisition of land and land rights necessary for the execution of the project, including additional land for future project components’ expansion
