The project aims at participating in the implementation of the plan of the Ministry of National Education designed to reform and increase the capacity of the educational system for the period 2001-2006, through increasing the capacity of public schools, enhancing governmental educational establishments, supplying a number of new and existing schools with furniture and equipment rehabilitating a number of basic and vocational schools.
Description:
The project, which is expected to be completed by the 2nd quarter of 2004, will increase the capacity of the educational sector by about eleven thousand pupils in different educational levels. The project includes establishing three technical intermediate schools, a public high school and three secondary and technical schools, along with the expansion of four intermediate schools and supply seven of laboratories thereof. It also includes the establishment of four primary schools and the expansion of six primary schools by about 18 classrooms, and supplying them with laboratories, workshop equipment, furniture and other necessary tools.
The total area of the classrooms and schools included in this project is about 22610 square meters. The Arab Fund loan includes establishing 112 classrooms to increase school enrollment by 6318 pupils as part of the overall project. The loan covers an area of about 66% of the total area covered by this project. The components of the project include:
1. Preparing land and basic services: includes preparing the land and providing it with necessary basic services.
2. Building construction: includes building new schools and their premises in different areas in the country, and expanding the existing ones.
3. The supply: includes supplying the classrooms with necessary furniture, and supplying laboratories and workshops with equipment and instruments necessary for teaching and practical training.
4. Technical services: includes engineering services needed to carry out studies and detailed designs, and the preparation and evaluation of the project tender documents and supervision of the execution of different parts of the project.
5. Support teaching Arabic language: includes supporting the special education programs to develop teaching of the Arabic language and to prepare their curricula and the printing of the required books.
Financing:
The loan of the Arab Fund covers about 67% of the project’s total cost. The Saudi Fund is participating with a loan of around KD 1.5 million. The government of Djibouti will finance the remaining costs and any additional unexpected cost.
