Objectives:

The project aims at contributing to meeting the demand for electricity in the Jamahirya by installing the steam units required to convert the existing gas plant to combined cycle, to raise the plant’s power generation efficiency, and increase its installed capacity by 300 MW, without incurring any increase in fuel consumption.

Description:

The project, which is expected to be completed by the middle of year 2003, consists of the following major components:

 1-  Heat Recovery Steam Generators: which include the supply and installation of four dual pressure steam boilers “heat recovery” and their auxiliaries.

 2-  Steam Generators and Turbines: which include the supply and indoor installation of two dual pressure steam turbines rated 150 MW each, along with the associated equipment, in addition to two steam generators and their auxiliaries.

 3-  Water Supply, Steam, and Condensate Systems: which include the supply and installation of water supply and steam and condensate systems and their auxiliaries.

 4-  Mechanical Equipments and Machines: which include the supply and installation of different mechanical equipment and machines and their auxiliaries.

 5-  Electrical Equipments and Machines: which include the supply and installation of different electrical equipment and machines and their auxiliaries.

 6-  Measurement and Control Systems: which include the supply and installation of measurement, control, and monitoring  systems in the station.

 7-  Civil Works and Buildings: which include the construction of buildings to accommodate steam turbines and sea water pumps, in addition to other buildings and installations, including roads, sewage networks, and others.

 8-  Consulting & Engineering Services and Supervision: which include all the consulting and engineering services and project supervision.

 9-  Institutional Support: which includes the acquisition of administration and financial software systems beside other computer and information systems and programs that the company may require.

Financing:

The Arab Fund’s loan of KD 25.0 million represents about 27% of the total project costs, estimated at about KD 91.4 million, while the Islamic Bank for Development is contributing about KD 14.7 million (about 16% of total costs), and the Jamahiriya will finance the remainder of the costs beside any additional future cost increases.
