Objectives:

The project aims at improving health standards by providing adequate sanitation services to eliminate environmental problems manifested in the flow of sewerage water to residential areas. commercial areas, roads and public squares. This will be accomplished by constructing sanitary networks in several areas in the city of San'aa. The project will reduce the spread of diseases resulting from water contamination, revitalize the affected commercial areas and improve the appearance of the capital city, thus boosting tourism.

Description:

The project will provide sanitary services to the most affected areas of the city through the construction of minor and major pipelines for collection of sewerage water and routing it to wastewater treatment stations. It consists of the following main components:

1 - Construction of Sanitary Networks: This includes supply and installation of minor and major pipelines, and their ancillary equipment, to be used for collection and transport of sewerage water in the areas of Akma and Western Safia, along with other sites in San'aa requiring quick remedial action.

2 - Equipment: This includes the acquisition of the equipment necessary for operation and maintenance of sewerage networks along with civil works, namely:

  1. Necessary tools and equipment for the operation and maintenance of the required sewerage networks, cranes, transportation equipment and required spare parts.

  2. Necessary lab equipment.

  3. Development of a document archiving system to include necessary computers and peripheral equipment.

  4. Completion of the administration building and the maintenance workshop for the San'aa branch.

3- Technical Services: These include:

  1. Preparation of final design documents and tender documents for sewerage networks in San'aa. 

  2.  Follow-up of project execution to include contractor pre-qualification, bid evaluation and project supervision..

4 - Training and Support for Computer Usage:

  1. Support for the use of computers in order to enhance technical and financial controls, along with the acquisition of required hardware and software, and staff training.

  2. Construction of training facilities and equipping these facilities with necessary provisions, along with the preparation and execution of operations and maintenance training programs.

 

Financing:

The Arab Fund loan represents about 87% of the total project cost, while the Yemeni Government will finance the remaining costs .
