Objectives:

This project aims at improving the road transport between Lattakia and Aleppo and supporting the Motorway Development Program through the completion of the important links of the network.

Description:

The project comprises the construction of a motorway about 98 km long stretching between Lattakia and Ariha to link the existing motorway of Tartous-Lattakia with the motorway network of Ariha, Damascus and Aleppo through Sarageb. The main project components are:

  1. Civil Works: This includes the construction of a four-lane motorway, two lanes in each direction, with a median and shoulders on both sides. These works include interchanges, bridges, drainage structures, retaining walls structures, and ancillary works.

  2. Consultancy Services: This includes the review and revision of the available studies and tender documents. It also includes the provision for the supervision of the project implementation.

  3. Road Maintenance Equipment: This includes provision of road maintenance equipment to enable carrying out emergency maintenance operations of the main road network.

Financing:

The Arab Fund loan covers about 33% of the total project cost. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development will provide a loan of KD 15 million, and the Syrian Government will cover the remaining costs.
