Objectives:

The project would assist in improving road transport services on the motorway network and alleviate traffic congestion in Casablanca by diverting the transit traffic to by-pass the city.

Description:

The second section of Casablanca-Settat motorway, which is expected to be completed by mid- 2000, comprises a by-pass link between the first section of Casablanca-Settat and Casablanca- Rabat motorways. Its total length is about 27 km with four lanes. The project components are:

  1. Civil Works: This includes the construction of the motorway, three interchanges, bridges and underpasses, and all other related civil works.

  2. Equipment and Buildings: This includes the construction of a main toll station and two subsidiary ones including the supply and installation of all related equipment, systems and safety facilities.

  3. Ancillary Works: This includes relocation and/or substitution of services. (water line, electricity, telephone) which exist within the project right-of-way. The works also include fencing the road, planting trees and other complementary items.

  4. Studies and Supervision:

    1. Studies: These include economic and technical feasibility studies and the preparation of design, specifications and tender documents.

    2. Supervision: This includes technical staff recruitment for the supervision and control of works. It also includes consultancy services to assist the project supervision team as may be required.

 

Financing:

The Arab Fund loan covers about 72% of the project total cost. The borrower covers the balance of the project cost.
