Objectives: 

The project aims at improving transportation between Al-Bikaa and the country's coastal areas. It also aims at contributing towards the development of those areas.

Description:

The project, which is expected to be completed by mid-2000, consists of two parts: The construction of a 34 km long asphalt road between Syr El-Dania and Jbab El-Homr, and the strengthening of 20 km of the road between Jbab El-Homr and El-Hermel. The project components include:

1. Civil works: The first part of the project includes the construction of a 7m two-way carriage way with a 1.5m shoulder on each side and all necessary ancillary works, while the second part includes widening and strengthening works and improving all the existing road's related ancillary services.

2. Consulting Services: These include services required to assist in completing the design, preparing specification and tender documents, and supervising the project implementation.

The Arab Fund loan constitutes about 79% of the total project cost. The Lebanese Government will finance the remaining costs, in addition to the land acquisition cost.
