72nd Coordination Group Meeting (Kuwait : 8-10/4/2013)
The Coordination Group held their seventy second meeting in Kuwait at the invitation of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development during the period 8-10/04/2013. During the subject meeting, representatives from the Islamic Development Bank, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, the OPEC Fund for International Development, the Saudi Fund for Development, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa, the Arab Gulf Program for Development, and the Arab Monetary Fund were in attendance. Representatives from the World Bank Group, the Japanese Agency for International Cooperation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) also participated.
Several topics were discussed during the meeting. They included the means of intensifying coordination and cooperation between the institutions of the group, as well as the relationship between members of the group and international development institutions. The World Bank presented its program in Yemen, as well as its initiative to support small and medium enterprises in the Middle East and North Africa. The Japanese Agency for International Cooperation presented their activities in the field of development across different regions of the world and especially their support to Palestine, where it was agreed upon to continue discussions on the possibility of cooperation between the Group and the Japanese Agency to support assistance in Palestine. In addition, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development presented their potential for cooperation with members of coordination group, especially in supporting the private sector with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Coordination Group institutions also addressed several topics, particularly those relating to the implementation of the Arab Development Portal, as well as the Group's position regarding the Busan Partnership on Aid Effectiveness and its role in the next stages of this partnership. Discussions also took place regarding coordinating financing arrangements related to possible future projects, that were presented during the meeting.
