Food Security Study Approved
The Board of Directors of the Arab Fund approves a $1 million grant to finance a study aimed at achieving food security for the Arab Countries through the Sudan project.
The aim of the study is to assess the present and projected situation of food security for the Arab countries in terms of major commodities such as grains, sugar, vegetable oil, meat, and dairy products, as well as fodder, and to develop an integrated short and long term sectoral plan for food security projects to be implemented in Sudan to contribute to food security for the Arab countries. The plan will include agricultural projects and infra-structure projects needed to support them, as well as investment and implementation programs for achieving such goal.
In addition, the study will review and appraise the existing investment legislation and institutional setup in Sudan, and identify changes needed to be incorporated to the existing laws and institutional setup in order to facilitate the flow of direct investment and achieve the most effective institutional setup to implement the sectoral plan.
